A few weeks ago, I joined MrRight.com.au, a new Australian dating service. The site claims it’s to be the only Aussie dating site where women choose who can contact them and guys compete for their attention. I was keen to put this to the test and experience it myself.

The sign-up process

I signed-up as a woman looking for a man and created a profile in Sydney, my hometown. I wrote a few lines about me, the person I’m looking for and added a picture to my profile. Job done! Mr Right claims you can create a profile in just 1 minute! That’s pretty accurate (provided you already have a good idea about what to write).

How it works

Then, I was able to browse through the profiles of single men in my town or neighbourhood. The fun part is that you actually add the guys you like to your shopping cart – the whole things feels as if you’re going on a man shopping spree! Interestingly, guys can’t contact you unless you’ve added them to your cart, which puts you in control.

My verdict

The site is easy to use and fun – it’s a new take on online dating and that’s refreshing! I also like that guys can’t contact you unless you’ve chosen them. I’ve used heaps of other dating sites and cringe every time I receive a rude or sexually charged message. I hope this twist will keep guys polite and well behaved.
As a single mum, I like that you can find other single parents – this isn’t something I’ve been able to do on other sites. However, you’ll find people of all ages, from seniors to young professionals.
I haven’t found Mr Right yet, but have faith in what the future holds.
